MOURNING BECOMES YOU

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan has one or two costume exhibits a year.  The last one was on the subject of Mourning attire.  The exhibit started with the showing of "mourning Jewelry"

Then we got to see illustrations of proper attire from magazine article of the time or published books

Children also wore mourning attire.  note the white collar and blue shawl, letting us know that this was late stage of mourning

Finally, the main attraction the costumes themselves!  I loved the simplicity of the mannequins, white with white hair.  It was all about the garments!

The paisley shawl of the left was outstanding!

I loved the details on these last three garments… The craftsmanship was divine! I only wish we could afford these details in todays clothing!
I hope you enjoyed my journey.

Brooklyn Botanical Gardens Go Gudrun

If you know me, then you know that I adore the fashion/life style company from Sweden called Gudrun Sjoden.  She is so ahead of her time it's amazing.  The company believes in beeing GREEN.  In the USA her flagship store is on GREEN STREET.  They only use recyclable cloth shopping bags.  Each season a new bag is produced many, of her fans collect these bags for shopping or crafts.  The catalog is on fantastic recyclable paper, just feeling it is delicious.  So as an Earth Friendly Company, Gudrun Sjoden has made partnership with the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens in New York.  First Sundays  Gudrun Sjoden is host the day!   A POP UP Shop in the super gift shop  is open for that day only.  Last Sunday I had the pleasure to spend the Day as A GURDUN SJODEN AMBASSADORE at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens with my Friend Kathi Nesi.
