As a designer, Kai-Yin Lo has created a unique style that reflects her deep understanding of China’s heritage. She was the first designer to bridge the gap between luxury jewelry using precious stones and metals and fashion jewelry. She created a new luxury standard based on jade and semi-precious stones, accenting their colors, beauty and variations in highly versatile styles that could easily move from street wear to the board room and the ballroom.

Kai-Yin Lo is globally recognized as one of the first Chinese designers to successfully break into the international market. The International Herald Tribune has called her a pioneer in jewelry design, for bringing semi-precious stones into the mainstream. In 2007, she was named the “World’s Leading Chinese Designer” by the Hong Kong Design Centre, recognized to be the most important award for designers of Chinese nationality.

The influential Wall Street Journal has described her as a “Renaissance woman”. A recognized expert on Chinese art, collector, lecturer and author, Kai-Yin Lo has been instrumental in promoting a knowledge and appreciation of Chinese culture in the West.

Kai-Yin Lo has organized and curated numerous exhibitions ranging from Chinese architecture and the Chinese living environment to Hong Kong’s Design Pavilion for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. In 1992, she organized a landmark exhibition of the works of Chinese artist Wu Guanzhong, which was the British Museum’s first one-man show of a living artist. The prestigious Asia Society in New York is host to the annual Kai-Yin Lo lecture series, “Asian Arts and Culture: A New Vision,” which serves as an important forum for East-West cultural dialogue.

Kai-Yin Lo is a sought-after speaker on subjects ranging from art, design and cultural history to the creative city. She has edited four books on Chinese art and culture. Her latest book, “House, Home, Family: Living and Being Chinese,” is in the collection of 400 libraries worldwide, and has been included on the reading list of courses in Asian studies at over 30 universities.
